Ikebana is the Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement, which has been practiced for more than 600 years.
*Ike* means - to place or arrange plants
*bana* means - flowers
The aim in Ikebana is to accentuate the uniqueness of each material used, be it flowers, foliage or branches. Nature, Spirit, Life and Art are intertwined in creating the living Beauty of nature. Ikebana has become invaluable for many Interior Designers, because of its ability to enhance the mood or structure of a space in the home.
There are many schools of Ikebana. I teach the style of Sogetsu School. It was founded in 1926 by Sofu Teshigahara. It is the most liberal and free style of all the schools. Because this is the first time Ikebana is being introduced to AWBS members, as an introduction, I am conducting workshops to give an understanding to this art of flower arranging.
