November's meeting came upon us very quickly sandwiched between our one of a kind 35th Anniversary Celebration the previous Saturday where we saw first hand that our members know how to party (!) and our annual Christmas Fayre the following Saturday.
If you missed this November 1st GM, you missed one of our most refreshing and unique speakers, who was also a woman just like all of us - engaged, interested, active, a loving mom and a real person. Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, MBE swimming champion, model and TV presenter entered the room to a roaring chorus of Happy Birthday!! It was the least we could do on Tuesday, November 1st as Sharron chose to share her birthday with AWBS. One of our talented members Piumie De Alwis of Bake My Day presented Sharron with a specially designed cake creation. She was so pleased with it our esteemed speaker promptly posted a photo and thank you on her own social media.
The busy fall season is starting with a bang. Julie McLemore VP of Philanthropy has several dates where you can sign up to volunteer at food banks, and other ways to get involved if you are looking to share your time. Alicia Essex, our head of our AWBS Christmas Fair reminded us about November 5th, and your President Kristi Thompson let members know how they may celebrate Remembrance Day / Armistice Day / Poppy Day on Sunday Nov. 13th 2:00 pm at Brookwood Military Cemetery Brookwood American Cemetery, in Woking
Dawney Hill, Brookwood, Woking, Surrey GU24 0JB. AWBS co-hosts the reception for this moving ceremony every year - so bring your Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts!
Kristi Thompson, President 2016-2017
