During our February 6th general meeting we were feeling the LOVE. In preparation for Valentine's Day our effervescent speaker was none other than the gorgeous and bubbly Martine McCutcheon, star of LOVE, ACTUALLY. She serenaded us with a few bars of one of her hit songs from her long and multifaceted career, and even showed us the Happy Dance she and her mother did when she heard she'd got the part opposite Hugh Grant!! What an afternoon, I'm doing the Happy Dance now just remembering this exciting meeting.
A first: this was AWBS' first time to meet at the historic Great Fosters Hotel inside it's 14th century Tithe Barn! Great Fosters, documented to be a hunting lodge of Henry VIII and later his daughter Elizabeth I, has been shortlisted for the Best Historic Wedding Venue in the "UK Wedding Awards 2017".
And a last: I personally was feeling the AWBS love today when my friends and former long time board members Tracy Pitcher and Michelle McGowan gave me such a lovely (surprise!!) farewell tribute after I announced my departure. These two very special ladies were the reason I joined the AWBS board. I would like to take this opportunity to tell my AWBS friends and my incredible board members what a great privilege it has been to work with you and to learn from you. You never cease to amaze. Each time I speak with someone, whether a friend or a new acquaintance, I am reminded just how impressive you are, what has shaped you, the path your lives have taken and what you have accomplished. I am constantly inspired and in awe of all you amazing women. If I may have been happy to stride towards my goals, you have shown me limitless ways to fly. I now know why everyone is so sad to leave AWBS, in spite of whatever exciting new adventure lies ahead. AWBS is truly a unique group of women who join together at this location and this moment in time, from all over the world --then the magic happens --AWBS as a group becomes greater than the sum of our parts. Thank you for letting me have the reins during this exciting period. I look forward to always being a part of this whole, no matter where we all may live.
Warmest wishes, and fond farewells,
Kristi Thompson, President 2015 - 2017
