Welcome to the Start of a New Club Year

Ladies, welcome to a sneak peak of the 2017/17 AWBS Club year.

To all our returning members we can't wait to see you at the September General Meeting on Monday, September 4th at Great Fosters. Doors open at 9:00 am.

We trust you had a fun-filled and restful summer.

Now that school’s back (the international ones at least), we are all looking forward to catching up with each other at the General Meeting and getting the 2017/18 Club year started!

New Members Coffee Morning

Please join us for coffee, tea, or light refreshments. You will have an opportunity to meet other new members, as well as many current active members of the AWBS. Our goal is to inform you on how to make the most out of your membership with the AWBS and your time here in the UK.

Last GM of the year

May is an odd month in the life of expats, as it’s often the time we learn friends are moving on or repatriating, while others are ‘still waiting to hear’. It’s also heading into the final stretch of the school year, with kids doing exams after crazy busy months of university applications. There’s graduations, end of year concerts, transitions on PTO Boards - it’s very busy! There’s summer holiday and/or staycation planning to be finalised, and the never ending prayers for ‘good weather’ in the UK.

To those friends who are leaving, thank you for all you’ve done for and with AWBS. We’re so glad to have met you and made happy memories together.

Christmas Lunch

Save the date for the AWBS Christmas luncheon... Once again, we are having our fabulous Christmas Luncheon at the beautiful Coworth Park Hotel. For those of you who have been before, you'll remember the great atmosphere, good company and excellent food. A welcome glass of bubbly helps get the party going! For those of you who are new - as soon as booking is available, get your spot as there are limited numbers and the places sell out fast.

AGM at Wentworth

We are such a spoilt club! Today we met in the stunning surroundings of Wentworth Club in Surrey for our AGM and to hear the delightful Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards speak.

April 25 is an important date for our Australian and New Zealand Members as it’s ANZAC Day, the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It’s a solemn day of remembrance for all those who have served and died in war and while giving service for their country.

March General Meeting with Dr David R Hamilton

AWBS is on a roll with truly fantastic Guest Speakers, month after month, thanks to our VP Programs.

This month, members and guests were treated to a motivational-speaker-with-a-differnce while soaking up the history and beauty of the ballroom at the world famous Pinewood Studios, home to the James Bond franchise of films.

This was Dr David Hamilton's second time speaking with AWBS, and the Members welcomed him back with open arms (and camera phones ready for selfies). We were even LIVE on Facebook for a portion of his talk, and you can hear the joy in the room.

February GM with Martine McCutcheon

During our February 6th general meeting we were feeling the LOVE. In preparation for Valentine's Day our effervescent speaker was none other than the gorgeous and bubbly Martine McCutcheon, star of LOVE, ACTUALLY. She serenaded us with a few bars of one of her hit songs from her long and multifaceted career, and even showed us the Happy Dance she and her mother did when she heard she'd got the part opposite Hugh Grant!! What an afternoon, I'm doing the Happy Dance now just remembering this exciting meeting.

January GM with HRH Princess Michael of Kent

Happy New Year to all our wonderful AWBS Members, friends and extended family.

January 9th general meeting at Wentworth kicked off 2017 with fireworks and friendly faces. Our gracious vendors were there to greet us with lots of goodies to choose from, our activity leaders had many new opportunities, and our speaker was none other than the elegant and always interesting HRH Princess Michael of Kent. We thank her for braving the harsh elements to give a lively and informative talk on her historical fiction trilogy about real behind the scenes powerful woman who finessed the careers of many including Joan of Arc: Agnes Sorel, The Queen of Four Kingdoms.

Historic December GM

Tuesday December 6th was what I would call historic! Meeting in
historic Windsor Guildhall, surrounded by paintings of Queen Elizabeth with most of her relatives, where her son Prince Charles and Camilla tied the knot here. But the icing on our GM Christmas pudding was our Special Speaker - fascinating, award winning historian, biographer and novelist Simon Sebag Montefiore. Yes, the internet can't hold a well dipped candle to love letters from Imperial Russia. Not after Simon Sebag Montefiore has uncovered long held secrets from the Russian archives.
