Welcome to Activities

There is something for everyone at AWBS

Activities are volunteer led and normally run from September to June. However, some activities run all year round. There are also occasional or one-off activities which vary from year to year. Some activities have a charge but many are free.

Booked for Lunch

Book lovers – meet monthly in each other’s homes usually includes a potluck lunch. There is no charge and no full year commitment.

Bridge
Meet fortnightly in each other’s homes. All levels welcome. Learn to play in a fun and sociable setting with other AWBS members.

Casual Walk
Occasional, easy walks in the surrounding areas, with coffee or lunch afterwards.

Club Socials and Meeting
Monthly during term time. Social gatherings held in special settings, such as Ascot Racecourse, Northcote House or Wentworth Club. We normally have a Guest speakers. There are local vendors, a raffle and coffee. Come and meet fellow members. Lunch in a local pub or restaurant often follows.

Coffee Mornings
Monthly coffee mornings at a local venue are held by the Membership team to specifically welcome new members but all are invited to join. Come and meet your fellow members and have a casual chat!

Country Walks
We are just steps away from some of the most stunning scenery in the United Kingdom with miles of paths criss-crossing the landscape. We have monthly walks in new locations a bit further afield, which are usually 5 to 8 km, covering various terrain and with different levels of difficulty. Normally we meet for an optional lunch afterwards. Recent walks have included Surrey Hills, Richmond Park and Castle Bottom Nature Reserve.

English History
Lectures, accompanied by refreshments and snacks. A guided field trip each term to a site of historical interest. Focus on British History often spotlighting the international dimension. Recent field trips have included Reading Abbey Quarter, Stonor Park and Dorney Court.

Events
Special Occasion outings to spectacular locations, eg Christmas Afternoon Tea and Summer Lunch … and more. We also have regular drinks evenings. Typical locations include Northcote House, Cliveden, Coworth Park and Monkey Island.

FIWAL
The Federation of International Women’s Associations London — brings together women’s clubs in the London area. Our club is proud to be a member, fostering connections and friendships with our sister organisations. Our FIWAL representative liaises with the federation and shares updates with our members, opening the door to a wide variety of opportunities to connect. Activities hosted by FIWAL and other member clubs are listed in our programme for anyone who wishes to take part.

Food Explorers
Meet monthly. Visit a range of restaurants to sample British and international cuisine, from modest local food courts to Michelin star restaurants.

Glorious Gardens
Visit spectacular gardens and country estates, exploring seasonal planting and garden designs. Recent visits included Sezincote, Kew Gardens and Horsley Towers.

Green Team
Occasional outings and discussions with an ecological element, sharing ideas about how to live more sustainably and minimise our environmental impact.

Inner Artist
Relaxed informal classes pitched to meet participants where they are in their drawing journey and help to build confidence in their abilities. Proceeds from this class hosted by member Robyn Lister are donated to our Philanthropic causes. 

Love London
We take advantage of our proximity to one of the most amazing cities in the world. London has so much to offer in terms of art exhibitions, cultural events and historic walks. Recent outings included National Gallery, Tate Modern, British Library and a variety of guided walking tours. 

Mahjong
Meet weekly in each other’s homes. Mahjong is easily learned and yet can be difficult to master! All welcome.

Nutrition Kitchen
Cookery demonstrations with lecture and delicious sampling, recipe sharing.

Philanthropy
This has always been an important objective for AWBS. Over the years, the club has donated over £50,000 to local good causes.

Quiz Night
Held occasionally in a local pub. Divide into teams for a great fun evening, with optional supper. 

Royal Ascot
This is a long-standing staple in our June calendar. International ladies should not leave without experiencing this icon of the British social and sporting calendar.  

Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society Flower Show
AWBS are represented at this annual event which takes place in May inside Windsor Great Park. Our members run a very popular Bake Sale and Tombola Stall, raising funds for local charities.

Tennis
Meet three times a week all year round. Coaching available. All levels welcome.

Trips
Current plans include a yoga retreat in Yorkshire, a luxury stay in a beachfront hotel Jersey…and a sun break in Ibiza.  Quite often the club can negotiate substantial discounts for members.

Theatre
West End and local venues. We often benefit from discounts with group bookings. Recent shows included Oliver and Pirates of Penzance.

In the recent past, activities have included cookery lessons, golf, horse riding, Chelsea Flower Show, and annual festivities around Thanksgiving celebration, Burns’ Night and others.

Members are invited to lead any activity which reflects their own interest. Leading an activity – or joining any activity – is a great way to meet new people and experience all that our area has to offer. All ideas are welcome.
