Welcome to Activities

There is something for everyone in the AWBS! In addition to our General Meetings and social events,  AWBS members have access to a wide variety of activities together.  Activity groups are established and organised by volunteer members who are interested in pursuing their personal interests and hobbies with other AWBS members. You have the option of becoming an Activity Leader too if there is a suggestion you might like to put forward.  Joining an activity is a fast, fun, and easy way to meet new people and develop a sense of belonging in your community.  Activities run from September to June and we are always looking for fun, interesting new activities to add to our offering!

Here are some of our popular activities and groups, please follow the link to the activities page for more information and upcoming dates.

BOOK CLUB: Book Club meets once a month. The only requirement is a love of books and a commitment to read the book being discussed. There is no charge and no full year commitment. Book Club takes place during the day around lunch time.

BRIDGE: Learn to play bridge in a non-threatening fun setting with other AWBS members.

MAHJONG: Mahjong is easily learned yet can be difficult to master! We play every week in the home of one of our members.

COUNTRY WALKS: We are just steps away from some of the most stunning scenery in the United Kingdom with miles of paths, criss–crossing the landscape, making all areas of this charming country accessible. Walks vary from 3 to 6 miles and are typically once a month, September through May.

GLORIOUS TOWNS, HOUSES AND  GARDENS

Join us as we discover local unique treasures hidden in our towns, historic houses, hotels and gardens.

LOVE LONDON
Informative and educational walking tours led by a tour guide followed by lunch once a month in different London neighborhoods. Sometimes the focus will be a geographic location, other times, a particular subject matter within London.

FOOD EXPLORERS
This delicious food related activity will include activities such as high tea experiences, food foraging, food history and tours, cookery courses, jam-making, and more! YUM!

ENGLISH HISTORY
Learn about the rich history and culture of Britain, with four lectures and a field trip each term (autumn and spring). One-off special events are also featured.

ART APPRECIATION
This class is for everyone from beginners to the most seasoned art enthusiasts. Art history attracts a fun group of women interested in learning about artists’ lives, the history of their time and the meaning in their work.

TENNIS
Our members enjoy social tennis at all skill levels.

GOLF
Being in the midst of some of the UK’s best golf courses, you will have the perfect chance to either learn to golf or perfect your game.

GREEN TEAM:
In line with the FAWCO focus on the Environment, the AWBS Green Team meets monthly (more or less) to share ideas of how to live more sustainably and to learn more about how to minimise our environmental impact. Sometimes we arrange workshops and activities such as litter picks and visits to regenerative farming initiatives. Any enquiries or ideas, please contact Rosie Deane

TRIPS AND TOURS
Join a constantly changing mix of women who get together to travel in the UK and abroad, explore, shop, and above all, have fun.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Traditionally these would include Ascot Race Day in June, a spring event, Royal Windsor Flower Show, Chelsea Flower Show and dinners or lunches to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Burns Night, etc.

Please contact VP Special Events Sunita Shroff for more information.

ONE-OFF ACTIVITIES
These are put together by one or more members as a one-off and are meant to be social and fun. We’ve also seen some Horseback Riding, a tour of a Gin distillery and more. Keep your eye on this one--fun opportunities often pop up! And if you have a suggestion or idea, please contact VP Activities--Fabrienne Prudencio for help in setting it up!

MEMBERS WELCOME COFFEE
VP Membership Heather Kearon and her team hosts monthly coffee mornings to welcome new members to the club. This is open to all so if you are free come and join her, your input and enthusiasm will be appreciated.

EVENING EVENTS/WORKING WOMEN
We plan evening events throughout the year, sometimes members only, and sometimes with partners or family. Keep an eye out on our calendar. We also have a networking group for working women, please contact Erin Neete if you are interested to hear more.
